![]() ![]() IT is true that the Super Reverb and the Deluxe Reverb amps went from the GZ34 to the 5U4 in the summer of '68.about a year after the SF cosmteics came into use. The BAndmaster REverb went to the 5U4GB tube rectifier with the AA1069-1969-schematic. When the BAndmaster amp gained reverb with the AA768 schematic, then the amp gained the GZ34 tube rectifier. When the BAndmaster underwent its first circuit changes as a SF amp.schematic AC568, the amp was still rectified in the solid state domain. When the FEnders went to SF cosmetics in April of '67, the circuits remained the same. This began with the 6G7 BAndmasters in the Blonde era. BF BAndmasters ran solid state rectification. That serial number should not be on an amp with a silver panel on the front of the chassis. IF that amp has a SF panel on the chassis and the serial number is A12438, then don't be surprised if you find odd things when you go to dating components. Blackface amps are neatly wired with cloth covered wire and Silverfaces are generally a lot messier with pvc wire everywhere. Another sure give away of Blackface vs Silverface are the blue molded tone caps for Blackface, and the burnt orange or chocolate brown for Silverface. and, the rectifier tube for Blackface Bandmasters are the 5AR4/GZ34 tube. Also check pot codes, but if you don't know how to discharge caps don't poke around you could get killed.ĥ. If there is a tube chart a '65 would have the letter O stamped on it.Ĥ. tranny brand, the 5 being '65, 42nd weekģ. Check the transformer code #s you might see something like 606 5 42 on the bottom of a transformer. Could be a Blackface chassis in a Silverface box.
